Making Democracy Work

Action and Advocacy

No advocacy or action without a position

The League of Women Voters is a bipartisan organization, and as such we do not support candidates or parties. What we do best is to create reliable, informative positions based on evidential studies.

With any issue, be it national, state, or local, we assign a study committee to research and develop a formal League position. The process the committee takes to form a position is thorough in its pursuit of facts and details. As the study progresses, the committee continues to discuss pros and cons while developing consensus questions that are then presented to the League membership.

Adhering to the scope of the study, members answer the consensus questions before reaching a conclusion and forming the consensus statement. This becomes the League's official position. We can now take firm action.
