Virtual Juneteenth Celebration

DNA has planned an exciting celebratory event to heroize our ancestors for the freedom they acquired on June 19, 1865. Join us for a day full of interactive events that can be done in the comfort of your own home. DNA will commemorate our ancestors remotely, via Instagram live (@dngsaspire & @dngsapiretoo), Facebook, and Zoom.

The Detroit League is participating in Determined Ng’s Aspire Juneteenth Celebration (Friday, June 19, 2020) to provide Voter Registration information.  We encourage members to attend these interactive events throughout the day (12:00noon to 12:00am).  Joyce Dallas, LWV Detroit Volunteer Coordinator, will represent the League at 2:00pm.

DNA’s goals are to enlighten the public about the Juneteenth holiday, advocate for Black businesses, and propel voter registration within The City of Detroit.

This virtual celebration creates an opportunity for community interaction while practicing social distancing. Attendees will start their day in a healthy way by joining us for our 2.23mi run/walk/ride in memory of Ahmaud Arbery* and others who have lost their life to social injustice, hate crimes, and police brutality. As well as practice their right to become a registered voter with the help of the League of Women Voters of Detroit. DNA also will distribute Garden Party Starter Packs in hopes of encouraging viewers to start a garden with us. All while, promoting Black business or community organization(s).

The celebration concludes with a virtual concert, starring Drego Baby, with tickets being sold on our website for the price of $2. 100% of the proceeds from this celebration will go to the DNA Entrepreneurship Breadwinner Grant. The grant is a community contribution to support Black businesses located in the city of Detroit.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has not deferred our mission but has motivated us to advance our health initiative. We will not allow this crisis to further hinder the mental health and wellbeing of our communities.
