Thank you for your interest in supporting the League of Women Voters of Detroit. Following are several ways to give to LWV Detroit.
Donate to the Detroit League
Your charitable donation will go directly to our important work to empower voters and defend democracy. Together we can ensure our elections are free, fair and accessible; protect our environment; and reduce the influence of money in our elections.
Your charitable gift to the League of Women Voters of Detroit, a 501(c)(4) organization, is not tax-deductible. Your gift will support our work to increase understanding of major public policy issues through education advocacy.
Give to the LWV Education Fund
Established in 1957, the mission of the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF) is to encourage the active and informed participation of citizens in government. LWVEF offers citizen education and research to help Americans perform their civic duties, including exercising their right to vote, particularly those at the greatest risk of disenfranchisement.
LWVEF helps to facilitate dialogues that enable communities to bridge political and ideological divides and find common ground on issues of greatest concern, from terrorism to global poverty. By providing voter registration and election information as well as voter services and citizen education activities (e.g., voter guides, VOTE411.org, candidate forums, and debates), the LWV Education Fund seeks to do the following:
- Build citizen participation in the democratic process,
- Study key community issues at all government levels in an unbiased manner, and
- Enable people to seek positive solutions to public policy issues through education and conflict management.
Donations to the LWV Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) corporation, are fully tax-deductible where allowed by law.
To support the Detroit League’s Education Fund, please send a check made payable to “LWV Detroit Education Fund” and send it to the Detroit LWV office ・PO Box 2503 ・Detroit, MI 48202. Thank you in advance for your support.
If you have questions about donating to the LWV Detroit Education Fund, please contact our League treasurer Charlene McNary at lwvdetroit@gmail.com or 313-288-9590.
For more information, the League of Women Voters Education Fund Clearing House contains studies and research conducted by League members. Visitors may download and print the documents. League members may submit documents for this site: https://sites.google.com/a/leagueofwomenvoters.org/clearinghouse/home
The purpose of this site is to share League study documents among some 800 national, state and local Leagues and with the public. Leagues can save time by not reinventing study materials and see how other Leagues have approached a tough issue. Leagues can also gain inspiration for program planning.
Membership
Supporting LWV Detroit with annual dues is the easiest way to give to the League because your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change.
And should you choose to participate with members in League projects, you will:
- gain knowledge and experience from study and discussion of timely and important topics
- discover new interests, develop new skills, and learn about crucial issues in your community; and
- make professional contacts and and develop lasting friendships.
