Why should you join?
Joining LWV Detroit is a great way to get involved in your community and play an active role in our democracy. LWV members make a visible difference by serving as community leaders using their experience to create positive, lasting change not only in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park but across the State of Michigan and throughout the nation.
Through participation in League projects, you will do the following:
- Contribute valuable service to your community.
- Gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics.
- Discover new interests, develop new skills, and learn about crucial issues in your community.
- Make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships as you meet others in the League who share your interests.
Detroit League Membership Dues
Membership with LWVDetroit starts July 1 of each year. Annual dues for LWV of Detroit 2023-2024:
- Individual Membership (join or renew) ⏤ $60
- Adding 2nd Membership for someone in same household (join or renew) ⏤ $30
- Household Membership for 2 members in same household (join/renew at the same time) ⏤ $90
- Students ⏤ $0
Free LWV Membership for Students! LWV has permanently waived membership dues for students.* Go to Join or Renew by Mail (below) and follow the instructions to complete the OFFLINE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION.
*The League recognizes a student as someone at least 16 years of age and registered at an accredited high school or college and enrolled in at least one one-credit course.

To join LWV Detroit or to renew your membership using a credit card:
- Following the fields below, choose the membership type (individual, household, or adding 2nd member within the same household).
- Complete the membership form with personal info.
- Please note the convenience fee for an online transaction.
To join LWV Detroit or to renew your membership by writing a check:
- Return to the Membership Page.
- Scroll down to Join or Renew by Mail.
- Tap OFFLINE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION.
- Follow the instructions.
Membership fees are waived for students, so please use the Offline Membership Application.

What do I get with my membership?
Your Detroit League membership adds your voice to a powerful force of League members from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong.
Your LWVD membership automatically makes you a member of LWV of Michigan (LWVMI) and LWV of United States (LWVUS).
With membership, you will also receive an email copy of the Detroit League’s bi-monthly newsletter LWV Detroiter as well as the LWV state bulletin League Links and Action Alerts from the National League.
How Membership Dues are distributed
Annual membership dues support the national LWV office (LWVUS) in Washington, DC, the State LWV office (LWVMI) in Lansing, MI, and local LWV Detroit activities, which serve all of Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. For more information on LWV Detroit activities, check out our online calendar.
