Leagues across the country took action in numerous voting and civil rights cases:
- The Leagues of California and San Francisco joined an amicus brief denouncing the state for covering up the city’s affordable housing failures;
- LWV of Alabama and partners sued to halt a law that would severely restrict and punish civic voter engagement activities;
- LWV of Michigan filed a motion to intervene on behalf of voters in a lawsuit that aims to compel more aggressive voter roll purges;
- LWV of New Jersey and partners filed an amicus brief asking the US Court of Appeals to affirm a decision stopping the use of a discriminatory county line in the state’s primaries and
- LWV of Iowa filed an amicus brief arguing that legislators violated the First Amendment in a recent book-banning law targeting LGBTQIA+ content.
These are just a few of many active League cases.
