Each Sunday from September 4-November 6, Phil Portlock, a Washington DC-based photographer, film producer and voting rights activist, screens his documentary about the history of African American voting rights in the United States and the continuing threats to those rights.
Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
Join All Voting Is Local for the Spirit of Democracy event at the Spirit of Detroit Plaza. We will celebrate the people who make our democracy strong and work to make sure the voices of the people are heard at the ballot box.
