The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC) began court-ordered mapping sessions for seven Michigan House districts at a virtual meeting on January 16, 2024. The meeting and all future mapping sessions will be live-streamed on the MICRC YouTube channel.
The new districts will determine boundaries for City Council elections, could break up community groups and neighborhood block clubs, and alter services provided to residents. Also watching closely are appointees to the City Council and members of the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Planning Commission, who must live in the districts they represent.
See this link for the Proposed District Maps.
Individuals can submit written comments or sign up for live public comments using the form at this link: https://forms.office.com/g/JymDHUgHd9. The Commission will also continue to accept email, mail, and paper submissions and comments from the public. All written comments submitted to the Commission will be posted on the MICRC website at Michigan.gov/MICRC.
MICRC mapping meetings during the week of January 22 will be in person at Cadillac Place in Detroit and at additional Detroit locations to be determined. Meetings the week of January 29 will be virtual.
