Michigan’s Open Meetings Act (OMA), or Public Act 267 of 1976 as amended, was passed in part to help build trust in government by bringing deliberations and decisions into the public light through open meetings. The OMA requires that the deliberations and decisions of public bodies be done at open meetings (with some exceptions) and sets standards for meeting notices, minutes, and public participation.
On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 6:00 pm, please join the Detroit Public Library, the League of Women Voters of Detroit, and MSU Extension for an online program that will cover the basics of the Open Meetings Act, including key definitions, requirements, and public participation at open meetings. Tonight’s presenter is Tyler Augst, an MSU Extension Educator, on the Government and Community Vitality Team.
