Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 12noon to 1:30pm at the State of Michigan Capitol steps in Lansing, MI. Inclusive Justice of Michigan (IJ) and Equality Michigan (EQMI) along with Stand with Trans and Michigan UU Social Justice Network welcome students back to school and legislators back to work with Protecting Democracy: Rally for Full Equality. Confirmed speakers include Michigan Senator Mallory McMorrow, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, ACLU Attorney Jay Kaplan, Episcopal Bishop Bonnie Perry, along with teachers, students, librarians, and activists.
Rally organizers are concerned about the recent rash of alarming actions around the state, such as defunding libraries, attempts at conservative takeover of school boards, and censorship efforts against books about slavery and the oppression of people of color, along with those having LGBTQ content, which can help diverse youth know that they are not alone.
