Since my first protest march in Washington D.C. at the age of 22, I’ve been a staunch advocate for social justice. As I matured, became a mother, and settled into a family lifestyle, my activism was channeled through my church, the First Unitarian-Universalist Church of Detroit. I could take the kids to church meetings and be assured of a dozen or so eyes watching over them…all while demonstrating how to show up for justice. Fast forward to my retirement years when my friend and neighbor joined the Detroit League after the 2016 election; I listened intently to her descriptions of LWV’s work. While I’m a longtime user of VOTE411, I joined LWV of Detroit in 2020. Attending my first LWV meeting, I knew I could put my legal secretary experience to work with the League. I am now excited to be the Detroit League secretary.
