Standing Against Inequality
In light of the hardships facing women in our democracy, the League mobilized to honor Women’s Inequality Day on August 26.
Thirty-five women-led advocacy organizations joined us in demanding that lawmakers:
1. Pass voting rights legislation;
2. Add the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution; and,
3. Restore reproductive freedoms to all who can become pregnant.
LWV shared this message via video and a full-page Washington Post ad. Thus far, the hashtag #WomensInequalityDay 1.8 million people across social media have viewed this post.
Combating Voter Restrictions in Missouri
The League of Women Voters of Missouri joined the Missouri NAACP in filing two lawsuits challenging the anti-voter law passed in May 2022. The law, which went into effect on August 28, would:
1. Eliminate forms of ID that many Missourians rely on to verify their identities at the polls;
2. Restrict voter registration efforts; and,
3. Limit voter outreach.
LWV will continue to share information on the progress of the lawsuit.
LWV Powers the Polls
Once again, the League is partnering with Power the Polls to enlist poll workers ahead of the November election. All states seek support, particularly Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.
