April 12 is Thank Election Heroes Day
LWV and other election advocacy groups have proclaimed April 12 as Election Heroes Day and encourage everyone to use this day to say thank you to our local clerks, election workers, and poll workers. Below is a letter from LWV Detroit. Click the button for the LWVUS toolkit that includes some great social media graphics.
Reflecting on the presidential election of 2020, Jeanette Senecal wrote an LWVUS Blog describing the primaries disrupted by a global pandemic, attacks on the U.S. Postal Service, and mis/disinformation spread across social media. “American voters prevailed and made their voices heard, turning out to cast ballots in record numbers…but the unsung heroes of the 2020 elections are the behind-the-scenes election administrators, volunteers, election monitors, postal workers, and secretaries of state who made democracy work.”
So, who are these nameless public servants and volunteers who power our elections every year and who, in 2020, ensured that more voters than ever before could make their voices heard? Click the button below to read Senecal’s blog, Giving Thanks to the People Behind Our Elections in 2020.
